January 2004

We have now completed 25% of Snowbird 2004. Where has the time gone! The first four days of January were spent at Ft Sam Houston. Debbie was on leave for the better part of our stay. However, we picked her up at the airport upon her return from leave on the 2nd; so we did get to spend a little time with her. After Debbie's formation, we went to Casey's Bar-B-Que with her friend Caitlin from Colorado.

We had some problems finding the re-set switch for the hot water heater. But, Tom from Sunline pointed us in the right direction; it's the little white dot between the lugs on the thermostat on the right.

On the 4th we continue to follow the setting sun by moving on to New Mexico and Arizona. We left Ft Sam at 7AM, traffic was light and the drive was easy. In fact, it was so easy that we drove 610 miles and made it to our campsite in New Mexico at 5 PM. We crossed into the Mountain Time Zone just west of Van Horn, Texas; this gave us an extra hour of daylight. There were hundreds of miles of open space along the way. And we saw our first Wind Generators- mile and miles of them high on the mesas in West Texas. We also saw some wild turkeys and Javelina. The scenery has really changed; now we're out West!
